A super 8 event, a venue, screening, meeting…


Floating micro cinema on the 21 June 2013 4:30 – 9:30pm in Ely

Last summer, over 40 people took part in a LIVE DUCK SHOOT filming Ely’s Muscovy Ducks with Super 8 cameras on Ely Riverside. This summer solstice the LIBERTY BELLE tour boat will become a FLOATING MICRO CINEMA with a special afternoon/evening of Super 8mm footage from the LIVE DUCK SHOOT along with a selection of films relating to life on the river.

The season kicks off with State of the Eight. This documentary double-bill will examine the impact and continued allure of Super 8 from the 1980s through to today.

Originally commissioned for and screened as part of the Eleventh Hour season on Channel 4 Television, Super Eight offers a unique insight into the world of the small film format during the 1980s.

A Super 8 camera itself becomes the narrator’s voice in this whimsical, fantasy documentary about filmmakers and their love of the Super 8 format. We are delighted to welcome  director Jo Comino for this special event. Both screenings will be preceded by a short introduction and followed by a Q&A session.

 “We celebrated the Olympics on Super 8”  – Sunday 3rd February 2013 at 6:30pm- Free screening

where: upstairs room at Number 4, Hatter Street in Bury St Edmunds

13 films were made around one of the following themes: the Olympic flame, sports or people featured in the Olympics or Paralympics. The films were shot as part of a challenge and shown on the day of visit of Olympic flame in Cambridge. Meet some of the people who made the films at the end of the screening.


A Day With A Duck: Gallery Screening 6 Oct 2-4p

You are invited to a gallery screening / discussion with Helen Stratford 
and Cambridge Super 8 Group members/artists Chris Mizsak and Ronan Quilty.

Including: Super 8mm footage from the LIVE DUCK SHOOT taken by over 40 participants 
on 15 September, archive duck related footage from East Anglian Film Archive and the last
chance to see the gallery presentation of A Day With A Duck.

Perhaps you have old home movie footage of Ely shot on Standard 8mm or Super 8mm,
with or without ducks? 
If so bring it along…..

Super 8 Challenge Screening at the Big Weekend

The 12 films made especially to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic flame will be revealed.

Saturday 7th of July 2012 – 5pm
First part – The screening will take place on Parkers Piece in the pop-up cinema! Join us for a free screening.

Sunday 8th of July 2012 – 3pm

Second part – The finalists and new 5 new films will be screened on Parkers Piece in the pop-up cinema!

Short film screenings in partnership with the Cambridge International Super 8 Film Festival and Straight 8

The best films shot for Straight 8 will be shown. One Super 8 cartridge, one brilliant idea, 3 min, no retake !
The fun starts at 8pm, so come and join us for a great night of inspirational shorts. We will show also some of the films we made at the Cambridge Super 8 group.
